Ben Foster's brutally honest message after announcing Wrexham retirement

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster believes conceding the goals he has for Wrexham this season makes this the right time to retire from football for a second time.

Foster initially retired last summer but signed for the Red Dragons in March after their first choice keeper Rob Lainton suffered an injury. The ex-Premier League shot stopper became a cult hero after saving an all-important penalty which saw Wrexham beat Notts County 3-2 at the Racecourse Ground in what amounted to a National League title shoot-out.

This victory all but sealed promotion back to the Football League and the North Wales club lifted the title a few weeks later. Foster chose to sign a one-year contract extension for the League Two campaign but has found it difficult in the fourth tier.

Wrexham have conceded 13 goals in just four matches with Foster in goal and the keeper told his Instagram followers it was the right time to retire. The 40-year-old said: "I just wanted to let you all know that I have decided to retire from professional football, yeah, I know, again.

"I feel like there has probably been four or five goals already this season that I should be saving. It is weird because goals are going in and I'm thinking: 'You should have saved that, how haven't you saved that?' And I think that's the reason why I am retiring and I just know I can't do what I used to do.

"As I say, it's a shame but that is the way it goes, it comes to us all
