Belgian GP: Sebastian Vettel hoping race pace can deliver positive result

Sebastian Vettel is looking forward to going back to Spa-Francorchamps this weekend, and hopes Aston Martin’s good race pace can help deliver a good result.

The German will be racing a Formula 1 car around the famous circuit likely for the last time this weekend, as he begins his farewell tour from the sport after announcing his retirement from F1 at the Hungarian Grand Prix, just before the summer break.

He’ll be looking to enjoy a positive result at one of F1’s most iconic venues, then, having won here previously in his career and, though that sort of achievement is unlikely this weekend, he still believes the race pace is there in the AMR22 to warrant having belief in having a good time of things:

“It is great to get back to the track after the summer break, and to get going again at Spa is fantastic. This circuit is incredibly fast and has a great flow; and every race here seems to throw up something exciting or unpredictable, which is also great for the fans. I think we have a car that performs well in races, and our team works well operationally, so hopefully we can string together another solid weekend.”

Vettel may well have a few emotions as he races this weekend given how important F1 is to him and how steeped in its history he is, especially with how much tradition there is around Spa.

Ultimately, though, every driver has a final Belgian Grand Prix before they hang up their gloves, and Vettel will just hope this is one to remember for the right reasons.
