Beijing 2022: Valieva falls out of medal contention
Kamila Valieva left the Olympic ice in tears after two falls and a series of further errors in her free skate saw her fall out of medal contention in Beijing.
The 15-year-old, allowed to compete despite a positive drugs test, started with a two-point lead over her compatriot Anna Shcherbakova but a score of 141.93 saw her fall to fifth place in the final standings.
The 17-year-old Shcherbakova took gold ahead of Russian compatriot Alexandra Trusova, with Japan's Kaori Sakamoto holding on to bronze.
In a remarkable twist, Valieva's fall out of the top three meant the flower ceremony - and subsequently the awarding of medals - will take place after all.
