Beauty expert opens up on facts about 'skin clearing' edible bee pollen trend

A beauty expert has spilled the beans on the online craze for edible bee pollen, and it turns out it might actually deliver results.

Edible beauty products, or 'nutri-cosmetics', are dietary supplements or foods that can be incorporated into your daily routine to improve the appearance and health of your skin, hair, and nails.

The idea of eating beneficial foods to achieve external beauty results isn't new, but Hailey Bieber's $17 Erewhon 'Skin Glaze' smoothie has recently sparked renewed interest in the trend. Franchesca Villar, beauty editor at Cosmetify, has explored edible supplements that can be added to your lifestyle for similar effects.

Bee pollen is one such ingredient gaining popularity, especially among beauty and skincare aficionados on social media platforms like TikTok. Comprising flower pollen, enzymes, honey, wax, and bee secretions, bee pollen is hailed as a superfood with a host of health advantages.

Franchesca Villar notes bee pollen can aid in anti-ageing due to its rich content of antioxidants like flavonoids and carotenoids, which shield the skin from free radical damage caused by environmental stressors such as pollution and UV exposure. She remarked: "Ultimately, bee pollen can help combat fine lines, age spots, and wrinkles."

TikTok user Marissa Crowley found adding bee pollen to her regimen to be a "saving grace".

In a video sharing her journey, she commented: "This is specifically for my girls that struggle with hormonal acne and cystic acne - I have been struggling since I was a teenager and could never find any solution for it.

"I accidentally stumbled upon my saving grace," she revealed, showcasing a bottle of bee pollen and detailing her daily intake.
