Beautiful Manchester Edwardian pool that was close to closure finally has it's 'lasting legacy'

A newly restored South Manchester heritage swimming pool has added a ‘lasting legacy’ design onto its features.

Withington Baths, a swimming pool and leisure centre, was built in 1913, and for two years the Love Withington Baths Group battled to save it from closure.

Now, thanks to a one-million-pound investment from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the baths has welcomed one of its latest and most anticipated additions in the restoration project to restore the baths to its former glory.

Five local schools were given the honour to work closely with Manchester Stained Glass to design equality-themed stained-glass windows for Withington Baths, the last remaining Edwardian pool in Manchester, as part of their restoration that started in January last year.

West Didsbury CE Primary School, Cavendish Community Primary School, Manchester Muslim Preparatory School, Old Moat Primary School, and St Pauls CE Primary School each worked individually with Sharon Campbell, an artist at Manchester Stained Glass based in AWOL studios, to develop the stained-glass designs.

With Sharon’s guidance, each school co-designed one of the five windows that were installed in July above the door entrance to studio two.
