Beating Rangers would be the ideal Christmas present, says Motherwell star
Motherwell defender Paul McGinn says beating Rangers would be the perfect Christmas present.
McGinn and his team-mates host the Ibrox club in a Christmas Eve lunchtime kick-off, and the 33-year-old hopes Motherwell can grab their first win in 15 Premiership games in some style.
A hectic schedule ahead of the winter break sees Motherwell host Rangers on Christmas Eve, they’re in on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and travel to Aberdeen on Wednesday, before hosting Livingston on December 30.
When asked what it would mean to beat Rangers, McGinn said: “It would be a pretty good Christmas present.
“We’re in on Christmas Day, so it would make it a lot better for us to be in, so here’s hoping.
“You’re there to get written off, but every team that has come here knows it’s still pretty tough – even with that run we’ve been on, you still need to play really well.
“We had a big performance against Rangers the last time [1-0 defeat at Ibrox on September 24] and never got that rub of the green, so I’m hoping that it can come this time.
“They seem to be a different beast just now, but that’s just the way it goes.
“The pressure will mostly be on them, so it will be a really good one if we can get a good result from it.”
McGinn knows Motherwell are on a poor run, but says they’re not pressing any panic buttons just yet, particularly after putting in a good performance in the 0-0 draw at high-flying St Mirren last weekend.
He said: “The mood is all right. I think most who were there last week think should probably have won.
“If the performance comes that generally helps, but it’s just frustrating that we didn’t get it.
“It’s a bad run that hopes comes to an end very sharply.
