Beaming Billy Gilmour reveals Brighton swot job as his secret sets tongues wagging after 6-0 pasting

Chuffed Billy Gimour has revealed swotting over superstar team-mates Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo paid off after his eye-catching display in Brighton's 6-0 beating of Wolves.

The Scotland international made only his third English Premier League start of the season as Roberto De Zerbi's side wiped the floor with their rivals on home turf. And Gilmour earned plaudits for his pass-perfect display as he helped cut the Midlanders to shreds as he played the full 90 minutes. And he admitted keeping close tabs on the £70m-rated Caicedo and World Cup winner Mac Allister is paying off.

Speaking to 5 Live after the thumping win, the 21-year-old said: "I took my opportunity. It's hard to fill Alexis and Moises' job but I just had to take my opportunity. When they've played I've studied them and what they do in my position. When I've been in training I've done it. To get the opportunity to try that today, it was good." Gilmour was told in January his time would come if he kept the faith after seeing his opportunities limited since a £9m move from Chelsea and with Graham Potter going in the opposite direction soon after.

Di Zerbi, speaking at the time, said: "When you have Mac Allister and Caicedo it is very hard to find space [in the team] but this is football, this is life. He has to wait for the right moment and in that moment he has to be ready to play well, like Arsenal, and show his quality.”
