BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Zara McDermott says she's been 'worrying for months' as she shares big health update

Zara McDermott has told fans she's 'over the moon' as she was finally able to share a positive update about a persistent problem she's had with her physical health. The former Love Island star was left in pain last December when she fractured her tibia - one of the longer bones in the lower half of the leg.

Zara has occasionally worn a moon boot while out and about and shared footage of herself earlier this year sporting it when she was on holiday in the Canary Islands. And back in March, the 29-year-old shared that she might have to be operated on to help her injury heal.

She declared on Instagram: "This evening I'm heading to the hospital because while I was away I got some news from my Dr about my tibia fracture. The good news is that there is some small evidence of healing! Yay!

"However he said he can see that the bone surrounding the fracture is under a lot of tension/pressure... whatever that means? Surgery is still an option but I've opted for the most natural route which is to try and help it heal on its own... Which means for the next few months I'm going to be on crutches and in a boot, which I'm being fitted for today. I've had to pull out of a few work things over the next few weeks because I know I need to prioritise my leg healing, but I'm hoping this is the beginning of the end now!"
