BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Giovanni Pernice's heartbreaking reason for being 'workaholic' after Amanda Abbington comments

Giovanni Pernice has opened up about the real reason he's a 'workaholic' after recently speaking out on his failed Strictly Come Dancing partnership with Amanda Abbington and being a 'perfectionist'.

The dancer returned to screens on Monday night (March 18) alongside Anton Du Beke as their latest travel series aired on BBC One. Anton & Giovanni’s Adventures in Spain sees the Strictly co-stars head to Spain on an epic adventure across Anton's motherland with their trip ending in the very village where Anton's mother was born.

During the first episode, as they arrived in Marbella they took a yacht ride, where the pair had a heart-to-heart. Opening up to Anton about why he works so hard, Giovanni said: "You know, I'm a workaholic as they say.

"Because obviously there is the fear that it is all going to finish someday, which is the truth. Obviously I support me, I support my family back in Sicily, financially, so obviously I have fear that if I stop, everybody else and estops because of me."

It comes after the Italian dancer has been hitting the headlines after finally speaking about his early exit from Strictly last year. Giovanni, who has been a professional on the show since 2015, was paired with actress Amanda during the 2023 series but she shared her decision to quit just weeks into the competition. She pulled out of one of the live shows of the series, despite impressing with her moves, due to 'medical reasons'.
