BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden 'needed space' as she offers update amid cancer recovery amid second honeymoon

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has shared her first update in weeks as she broke her silence amid her cancer recovery. The dancer was diagnosed with breast cancer in May last year and shared the news the following month after undergoing a mastectomy and reconstruction.

She later documented her chemotherapy treatment after the planned course of action changed once doctors found another type of cancer, meaning she wouldn't be able to make a swift return to the BBC One dance contest like she had hoped. Despite the setback, Amy bravely faced eight rounds of chemo and multiple complications before ringing the bell to signal the end of her treatment.

After emotionally reflecting at the end of 2023 on being "robbed" of the year she had planned, Amy has been pretty quiet on social media. But on Wednesday (January 24), Amy returned with a little update after a "crazy" week.

The 33-year-old star explained in a post shared to her Instagram Story that she had been absent due to a chaotic week of hospital appointments, before admitting she and Ben had taken a few days to themselves to relax.

In the lengthy social media post, Amy wrote: "Hey hey, thank you for all the lovely messages over the last few weeks. Sorry for being a little silent here. I needed a little time and space. I’m still missing and craving what I should be doing, but starting to accept I need to be patient."
