BBC's Vernon Kay says he got a 'right ticking off' after making on-air blunder
Vernon Kay has admitted to getting a "ticking off" following an on-air gaffe during his Radio 2 programme.
The 50-year-old, while presenting the weather segment this morning, confessed to mispronouncing a place name on Tuesday (December 17). It led Vernon saying he "hoped" he said the locations correctly.
He remarked: "Today's top temperature could be 14 in Seething - they're right proper angry in Seething, in Norwich - and a low of six in Skail in Kinbrace. I hope I said that right because yesterday I got a right ticking off for saying a Scottish place wrong."

He added humorously: "Kirkcaldy, I said the L. What are you going to do?"
The former model and TV host has been winning over listeners on Radio 2 since stepping in as cover for Rylan Clark in 2021, which resulted in the BBC naming him as a regular substitute for Steve Wright's afternoon show. However, it was last year that Vernon was announced as the successor to Ken Bruce for the coveted mid-morning slot, following Ken's departure after 37 years with the BBC.
This isn't Vernon's first rodeo at the BBC; the father of two previously hosted on Radio One from 2004 to 2012. Post-BBC, he had a short run on the then-new Radio X, reports Lancs Live.
Vernon, famed for his stint as the host of ITV's Family Fortunes, expressed his elation at taking over the Radio 2 show, describing it as a "dream come true". In a statement, he said, "And what an honour to follow in the footsteps of the mighty Ken Bruce," and added, "I'm absolutely over the moon to be handed the microphone."
