BBC icon confirmed to join ITV Corrie as George Shuttleworth's 'sassy' sister Glenda

An ITV icon has confirmed she's joining Corrie as undertaker George Shuttleworth's 'fun and sassy' sister Glenda. She says she's dreamed of joining Coronation Street ever since she was young, and now her wishes have all come true.

Jodie Prenger, who became a BBC icon when she won reality show ‘I’d do Anything’ and then starred in the stage play of iconic ITV drama Fat Friends, will appear on the cobbles from August. The 43-year-old actress started filming with the soap this week.

Her 'fun and sassy' character will be joining the street fresh from a cruise ship. But it won't be long before she finds her feet behind the bar of the Rovers.

Speaking about the role, Jodie said: “I know I sound like a soppy sod, but it’s been on my bucket list to be in Coronation Street since I was little. "I can't wait for you all to meet fun and sassy Glenda, George Shuttleworth's sister. I love Tony Maudsley already, what a fella! Your first day on the cobbles is one of the most nerve wrecking experiences you’ll go though and everyone was just so gloriously lovely, kind and welcoming. It was, and is, everything I expected, and more."

Producer Iain MacLeod said: “Glenda sails in fresh from the cruise ships with a whiff of the exotic, quickly making best friends and enemies in equal measure. The character is loads of fun and has echoes of classic Coronation Street females of old. Jodie is a fabulous talent and we are all very excited to have her aboard. She has felt
