BBC Escape to the Country star 'burnt out' and taking a break to focus on new passion

Escape to the Country presenter Jules Hudson has admitted to feeling "burnt out" and is taking a break from TV to pursue a different passion.

The 54-year-old TV presenter said he is learning something new that he's always wanted to do. Jules is now trying out a different career path and taking a 12-week course in furniture making, with support from his wife Tania, the Mirror reports.

Jules told Lyme Regis & Bridport News why he is taking a break from television. He explained: "Late last year, I realised I was quite burnt out and needed a creative and emotional reset. It was a family discussion, and we are investing in our future."

Jules, who is also known for being on BBC's Countryfile, is now busy with his furniture-making course in Lyme Regis, which is "intense". While he learns, he's staying with family by the sea in Dorset.

The presenter is studying at the Boat Building Academy, which he previously visited while filming Escape to the Country in 2012. He said he "fell in love" with the courses on offer. Despite his busy schedule, Jules said he has always wanted to return.

Jules is passionate about restoring old furniture and said: "It stuck in my mind, and I always wanted to return. But when you have a family and are working, life just moves on, and you go with it." The director of the academy, Will Reed, spoke highly of Jules, saying: "Jules is an absolute pleasure to have around so friendly and enthusiastic."

Jules said he sees his new venture as a "reset" and encouraged others to follow their dreams for better mental health. However, fans need not worry
