BBC confirm schedule shake-up as EastEnders is forced to move from usual slot

EastEnders chiefs have confirmed that they have had to adapt the usual schedule for a special and emotional reason. This will mean that the beloved BBC One soap will be moved.

It's not unusual for the network to override and step in when the need arises for specific events, we've seen similar instances where soap fans have felt let down when the programme had moved to another channel to make way for the Olympics or Wimbledon, in the past.

Tonight, fans will have to wait for their usual Monday digest as there will be a special programme taking the slot of Eastenders that will be devoted to marking the Holocaust Memorial Day.

At 7pm, when The One Show would normally air, BBC fans will instead tune in to see News host Reeta Chakrabarti explore Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

The live coverage will see iconic buildings and landmarks lit up in purple to pay respect after 80 years of liberation.

The iconic BBC One staple is normally available to watch on Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm. Due to the schedule interruption for the special anniversary, EastEnders fans will have to wait until 8pm this evening to tune in for their Monday instalment.

However, fans will no doubt be aware that the episode is also available for streaming over on the BBC iPlayer and is available for early viewing from 6am on the day of the release.

Viewers can be rest assured that there are no further plans at the moment to alter the schedule for the rest of the week. Especially as things are starting to hot up in Albert Square.

Tonight's episode sees tensions mount between Martin Fowler (played by James Bye) and Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton) after she got in his way when he was trying to save the Turpin Road Market.
