BBC Breakfast viewers criticise segment as they insist 'no one is interested'
BBC Breakfast viewers have collectively voiced their disinterest following a segment that they deemed less than captivating.
During the Tuesday (January 14) broadcast, correspondent Jayne McCubbin delivered a live report from the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom, where the chandeliers were being lowered for their yearly cleaning ritual.
"This happens every January, it's in the calendar, the spring clean has to happen. But this year, it's a bit different," Jayne remarked.
She hinted at an unusual twist to the routine procedure, suggesting: "There is a bit more jeopardy, a bit more danger, a bit more risk, a bit more, as you say, Only Fools and Horses potential for comedy and drama."
Jayne then interviewed Operations Manager Alan Edgar, who detailed the meticulous process of cleaning the historic Edwardian chandeliers, adorned with over 10,000 pieces of Italian hand-cut crystal, reports Lancs Live.
"It's actually a really delicate operation. We have to be really conscious and it's a really light dusting and cleaning of the crystals, so nothing too abrasive," Alan explained.
He also revealed that viewers would witness the chandeliers being lowered live on air, a task made even more significant as the central rope was being replaced for the first time in half a century.
"There are four people up in the ceiling hand winching each chandelier down, which is incredible," Alan added.
Alan went on to express his confidence in the experienced team, noting: "One of the chaps that's up there has been there since 1986 and has done it every single year, so I'm very confident in our team we have up there."
Fans swiftly flocked to X (formerly known as Twitter) to voice their lack of enthusiasm for the peculiar segment. One user didn't
