BBC Breakfast star called out by co-host after 'awkward' moment

Things took an awkward turn on Sunday's BBC Breakfast when Roger Johnson took a light-hearted swipe at weather presenter Matt Taylor's choice of clothing.

Roger, 56, had previously praised Matt for his distinctive patterned shirt before he proceeded to share a tweet from a viewer, which likened the item to a "pyjama top".

The anchor said: "I was just admiring your shirt and telling Nina how stylish I think it is!" He then read out a message from a viewer watching at home, which said: "Well done Matt for putting your pyjama top on when just throwing a tie on with a jacket over the top, it's the way to have a relaxed Sunday."

Matt took the remark in his stride, retorting: "Well, when you get dressed at 2:45am on a Sunday morning in the dark, who knows what you grab?"

Nina Warhurst joined the playful banter, suggesting: "He's still got his slippers on if the camera tilts down... but let's not do that!" to which Matt responded with a chuckle: "Some things don't need to be revealed," reports the Express.

Following the exchange, Nina called out her co-star Roger as she said: "I don't know who is meaner Andy [the viewer] for emailing in or you for relaying it to Matt."

Roger jovially conceded: "Look who am I to give advice to anyone, that's for sure" prompting laughter from everyone. This encounter follows Nina's earlier on-air apology to regular co-anchor Jon Kay in the same week.

The presenter apologised to her colleague Jon while they were setting the scene for upcoming content on their programme. The audience was informed that a segment would feature Jon's appearance on Celebrity Mastermind.
