Bayern Munich wantaway may be Manchester United’s perfect Raphael Varane partner

Manchester United, amongst many other issues, have struggled to cement a formidable defensive partnership. What seems to be the only guaranteed starter in the backline is Raphael Varane, which may highlight United's potential to be in the transfer market for an additional centre-back.

One player who may be the answer is Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule. In MEN's special transfer Facebook Live, United on My Mind editor Mike Parrott was accompanied by Sky Sports' Bundesliga expert Florian Plettenberg as the pair discussed all things United, including the future of Sule.

FP: "Massive developments in the last 48 hours. To get you the information, I had an interview with Herbert Hainer, the former CEO of Adidas and now the president of Bayern Munich.

"It was on Sunday right before the match against Hertha BSC, and I was speaking with him about Niklas Sule, and he told me: "We made him an offer. It's on the table, and now the player has to decide whether he says yes or no." But he was speaking about an offer, and it was a massive thing here in Germany because you have only maybe two or three or four weeks because Munich has to plan for the future.

"They [Bayern] are also linked to some players like [Andreas] Christensen and [Antonio] Rudiger, who are also big players in the Premier League. And then yesterday, we got the information here in the media that Niklas Sule informed the Bayern bosses weeks ago that he will leave the club in the summer as a free agent and that he has to take this decision.

"We know at Sky that he wants to leave the club now we have that confirmation. So Niklas Sule, as a central defender, is a free agent in the summer. He's a big player with big quality and is a massive fan of the Premier League.
