Bayern Munich chief denies rumours of Cristiano Ronaldo transfer from Manchester United

Bayern Munich director Hasan Salihamidzic has shot down rumours suggesting the Bundesliga club want to sign Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

Ronaldo has been linked with a surprise exit from Manchester United in recent days. Spanish outlet AS have claimed the Portuguese ace is unhappy with the lack of signings made by United so far this summer, and is eyeing up a move away from Old Trafford.

Reports have also claimed Bayern Munich are looking to snap up the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. The German champions have already signed Liverpool forward Sadio Mane, but face losing Robert Lewandowski as the striker continues to be linked with Barcelona.

Speculation over Ronaldo’s future has followed the 37-year-old throughout the past few months. The former Real Madrid star enjoyed a successful return to United after scoring 24 goals in 38 appearances, but their failure to qualify for the Champions League has prompted rumours of a possible exit.

A move to Germany though looks to be off the cards. Asked about the recent rumours linking Bayern with Ronaldo, Salihamidzic brushed them aside.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is a top player with an outstanding career. However, stories on a potential deal with Bayern are not true,” he told Sky Germany. “These rumours have no truth.”

Despite the rumours, Ronaldo is expected to report back for pre-season with United as Erik ten Hag gets down to work with his new squad. Players are set to return to Carrington on Monday, although those involved in recent internationals are expected to return at a later date.
