Bayern Munich ace Leon Goretzka gives update on his future amid Manchester United transfer links

Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka has poured cold water on suggestions that he would be keen on a move to Manchester United in this summer's transfer window.

United have been linked with the Bayern ace in recent weeks, particularly in the German media. Reds manager Erik ten Hag wants to strengthen his squad this summer and the addition of a central-midfielder is a leading priority.

The Reds have already earmarked Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount as a firm target to bolster that area of the team and they have agreed personal terms with him. However, they are yet to reach an agreement with Chelsea over a transfer fee, with the two clubs understood to have differing valuations of the England international.

Ten Hag wants to bring the average age of his central-midfield options down and Goretzka, who is 28, would help him achieve that. However, the former Schalke star has pledged his future to Bayern.

"I have no other plans than staying at Bayern," Goretzka told Sport1. "We have big plans for next year, as Joshua Kimmich said after the Ukraine game."

Speculation about Goretzka's future in recent weeks has stemmed from reports that Bayern head coach Thomas Tuchel wants to bolster his own midfield options this summer, meaning the former could be forced out to make way for new arrivals. Goretzka, however, welcomes the thought of added competition for places.

The Germany international added: "Competition in the squad is a basic prerequisite for the success of FC Bayern. Those responsible are fulfilling their duty to question everything. But I am just as sure that we will find our way back on the road to success together in the new season."
