Battlefield 2042 brings major cosmetic changes in new update

Battlefield 2042 developer DICE has announced that next month's major update will bring a "refreshed art direction".

In-game Specialists will see a cosmetic makeover to be more in line with Battlefield's post-apocalyptic atmosphere. During the game's initial launch, fans criticised the appearance of the Specialists by arguing that their design did not fit in with the rest of the game and appeared too light-hearted.

Now, the developer has released new renders of some of the Specialists which shows them donning a more gritty and serious look while also expressing tougher faces, reflecting the effect war has on soldiers. While the new update won't bring any major changes to gameplay, the cosmetic changes should help to quell some of the fans' criticism of the state of the game.

A Lead Community Manager at EA posted some of the new renders on Twitter with the caption: "Our next game update delivers a refreshed art direction for our Specialists. This change will arrive in Update 1.2 alongside a refreshed Kaleidoscope in early August."

Some fans responded positively to the cosmetic change, with one user writing: "Keep the updates coming, loving the changes that have been happening to the game so far." While another wrote: "This looks...great. These models look much better than the current versions and fit much better with the atmosphere. I'm not ecstatic about the specialist concept, but this is an improvement nonetheless."
