Barry Robson in cheeky Aberdeen board one liner after sealing Euro spot as he dedicates St Mirren win to fans

Proud Barry Robson dedicated Aberdeen’s European return to the Red Army.

The Dons sealed third spot with their win over St Mirren at Pittodrie, and it could potentially bring guaranteed European group stage football if Celtic beat Inverness Caley Thistle in the Scottish Cup final. Robson stated: “Most importantly is the fans in Europe. Over the last three months they have been brilliant - I haven't heard Pittodrie like this for a long time. When you work as hard as the players have done, it's what the Aberdeen fans want and the players have brought it to them.”

It was also just reward for the Aberdeen board who handed Robson the job on a full-time basis going into the top six. He joked: “They took their time, didn't they? The chairman and Stewart and Stephen Gunn, I have known them a long time. These people live for the club. They love the club.

“They try hard and they want the club to do well. It is pleasing for them as well and good for the club and it will be good finance into the club.”

Robson praised his players and Leighton Clarkson and captain Graeme Shinnie for producing moments of magic. The Aberdeen manager insisted: “He (Clarkson) gives you that feeling when a player puts a ball down and you think, 'hmmm, this is a goal.' He has been a big part of our team and him and Ramadani and Shinnie, you see the difference when they are back in.

"He (Shinnie) played captain's role. It is why I made him captain as a loan player. He knows the club, he loves the players, he has a great attitude with that drive and enthusiasm.”
