Barry Robson digs out Euro refereeing 'standards' as Aberdeen boss forced to bite his tongue after elbow on Duk

Frustrated Barry Robson reckons Aberdeen let HJK off the hook with a point in the Europa Conference League.

And he's questioned the 'standard' of officiating after Giorgos Kanellopoulos walked free for what many believed was an elbow on Duk. The Dons got off the mark in Group G after Bojan Miovski cancelled out Bojan Radulovic’s shock opener at Pittodrie and Robson felt his team created enough opportunities to win but had to settle for a point.

He said: “I thought we controlled large spells of the game. They’re a good side, too, and I think we had 17 shots. I think maybe that a little bit of clinicalness at the top end of the pitch cost us tonight because we certainly had the shots and the play to win the game.

“I know Kelle only had one save to make. They scored a goal where we need to do better. It was a great goal for Bojan. Obviously we’ve had other chances in the game we’ve missed. That was the wee bit of frustration for me. Just about being a wee bit more clinical at the top end of the pitch.

“We had loads of balls flashed across the box and should have dealt with them better to get a connection. Duk is through one on one. We could have come away with three or four goals. The boys are frustrated. In the four games before this, we scored 10 goals and we could have had two or three or four tonight.

“They know they should have won the game. In Europe, the small details matter at this level. They know that.”

There was a shout for a possible red card for an elbow on Duk but Robson refused to go into specifics. He did though question the standard of officiating as he said he was "massively surprised" no action was taken against Kanellopoulos. He said: "Massively surprised.
