Barriers installed at car park overlooking Manchester Pride as main stage reaches full capacity

Police have put barriers in place to prevent people from viewing the live performances at Manchester Pride.

GMP officers and security staff were reportedly seen inside the Chorlton Street building and were believed to be clearing the NCP car park, which had become a viewing spot for the crowded main stage.

The move came as the main stage reached full capacity early in the evening. The four-day event, which is regarded as one of the UK’s largest LGBTQ+ festivals, is continuing today with performances from the likes of Danny Beard, Claire Richards from Steps and the Sugababes.

Fans hoping to see the likes of Jessie J and Rita Ora earlier in the week have been met with large queues to get into the main stage area, with attendees told earlier this evening that the arena was at capacity with a two hour wait to get in.

Manchester Pride organisers urged gig-goers to get down to the stages as early as possible in order to avoid disappointment and recognised that the Village Stage area has attracted ‘significant attention’.

A spokesperson for the event told the M.E.N: “While the performers of Manchester Pride Festival are undoubtedly popular, we understand the frustration some attendees may feel if they are unable to see their favourite acts due to capacity limits. These limits are in place to ensure the safety and enjoyment of everyone.”

Ahead of the big performances on the Main Stage this evening from Sugababes and Danny Beard, barriers have been put up in place on Chorlton Car Park, with security officers manning the area.

Manchester Pride and GMP have been approached for more information.
