Barnsley sign 167-goal striker whilst Derby's rebuild continues: League One transfer round-up

With the 2022/23 League One season less than a fortnight away, Lincoln City and their rivals are continuing their preparations for the new campaign. But who has been busy over the past week?

Michael Duffy has further strengthened his Barnsley team with the addition of striker James Norwood on a free transfer after the 31-year-old left Ipswich Town at the end of last season.

The Englishman scored 28 goals in 88 appearances over a three-year spell with the Tractor Boys, netting a total of 56 career goals in the EFL.

Norwood is best known for his time at Tranmere Rovers, where the centre-forward helped the Birkenhead outfit secure back-to-back promotions from the National League to League One in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons.

Cambridge United have signed 21-year-old centre-back Zeno Ibsen Rossi from Bournemouth on a three-year deal.

The defender made seven first team appearances for the Cherries last season, including four in the Championship, whilst also playing four times on loan in Scotland with Dundee FC.

U’s boss Mark Bonner told the club’s official website: “Zeno is comfortable in possession, has a good range of passing and has many physical qualities to become a strong defender with us.”

Attacking midfielder and former Imp Jack Payne has joined Charlton Athletic on a two-year deal following his release from League Two side Swindon Town.

The 27-year-old has had spells at Southend United, Huddersfield Town, Oxford United, Blackburn Rovers, Bradford City as well as spending the 2019/20 campaign at the LNER Stadium.

With their immediate future no longer hanging in the balance, Derby have continued their major effort to build a competitive squad by signing versatile full-back Korey Smith.
