Barcelona set to join Celtic and Rangers in exclusive trophy club as they hunt down Real Madrid in major honours list

Winning one trophy is something to cheers about. Winning 100 of them? That's something pretty special.

Only a handful of clubs in the world can claim to be major honour centurions and it looks as if Barcelona are going to be one of them by the end of the season. The Catalan side are out in front in La Liga and while they claim to already have won 100 - the Spanish Football Federation are yet to recognise their 1937 Mediterranean League - they are 12 points clear of Real Madrid after their Clasico win before the international break and look set to smash that barrier either way by May.

Madrid became the first club across Europe's 'big five' leagues to win their 100th back in February when they claimed the Club World Cup but outside of the elite divisions, it has of course been done before. Rangers and Celtic have both long since cleared that barrier with 117 and 114 credited to the Glasgow giants respectively and both will be hopeful of adding to their tally this season.

Ange Postecoglou's team can however move to within one of their rivals if they add both the Scottish Cup and the Premiership to the League Cup they already claimed this season - something which would add even more spice to the Glasgow rivalry next season

Al-Ahly in Egypt have 120 recognised trophies to their name while Linfield have won the three major honours in Northern Ireland 111 times. Meanwhile Club Nacional de Football (115) and Atletico Penarol in Uruguay (110) make up the remainder of the seven clubs credited with 100+ major honours. Soon to be joined, of course, by Barcelona.
