Banyana's Afcon-winning star Linda Motlhalo joins Scottish side Glasgow City

Glasgow City have announced the signing of Banyana Bayana star forward Linda Motlhalo.

The 24-year old will join them on a long term contract until 2025 from Swedish side Djurgardens IF.

"Glasgow City are delighted to announce the signing of South African international Linda Motlhalo. The 24 year old attacking midfielder joins on a long term deal until summer 2025 from Swedish side Djurgardens IF," the club said on their official website.

Following the start of her career in South Africa, Motlhalo first moved to United States, spending a season at NWSL side Houston Dash in 2018.

The following year, Asia came calling with China's Beijing Phoenix snapping up the young talent before transferring to Swedish outfit Djurgardens IF in 2020.

Motlhalo made her first senior international appearance at only 17 years old and scored on her debut. She is now a key figure in Desiree Ellis' Banyana side and already notched 16 goals in 62 caps for her country.

The 24-year-old is expected to compete at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup later this year after helping her country win the Women's Africa Cup of Nations just a few months ago.

"I am excited to have signed with Glasgow City. I am looking forward to new experiences and new adventures here and I look to develop further. I can’t wait to get this chapter started," Matlhalo said

Motlhalo is interim coach Leanne Rosse's first signing and says she is excited to work with someone of Motlhalo's experience despite her relatively young age.

"I am excited to announce the signing of Linda Motlhalo here at Glasgow City," Rosse said.

"Linda arrives with a wealth of experience on her cv from her time in some of the top leagues in the world and her impressive international career with South Africa.
