Banker who quit his job to open takeaway from his kitchen announces 'exciting' move

The man behind a much-loved dark kitchen in Stockport has revealed plans to take over a bar in south Manchester. Taphael Montrose has been running Monty's Kitchen from his home in Gatley, Stockport, but has now found a new home Wythenshawe.

The former banker, who quit his job to pursue the culinary arts, has been feeding his community since October last year, taking orders through delivery services. However, next month the eatery will be taking up residency at the Tates Bar in Northenden as part of an 'exciting' partnership.

Speaking about the change, he told the M.E.N.: "We're going to be taking over the kitchen at the bar and it's going to be a joint venture. They're going to be taking control of the bar and the events side of things and we'll be doing all the food and coming up with bespoke menus.

Taphael, 33, says that despite the move, Monty's Kitchen will be able to serve the Stockport, Cheadle Hulme and Gatley areas. The food place's menu is known for its fusion of Caribbean and English cuisine with meals such which are all gluten with vegan options available.

Taphael says new customers at Tates Bar can expect bottomless brunches, Caribbean themed Sunday roasts, breakfasts, brunches and daily lunch specials once the kitchen is fully operational.

"I'm trying to do something different, I'm a second generation British Caribbean hoping to bring modern day British cuisine with Caribbean flavours," Taphael said.

"And most importantly the service, my first job was at John Lewis so customer service is something I pride myself on, giving you an experience rather than just something to eat."

Monty's Kitchen will officially be open at the Tates Bar on
