Ballon d'Or quiz: Can you name the missing player in these 15 questions?
The Ballon d’Or is the most prestigious individual accolade in world football these days.
Each year the award, which was created by sports writers Gabriel Hanot and Jacques Ferran in the 1950s, is handed to the best performing player on the planet.
English hero Sir Stanley Matthews was the first recipient of the Ballon d’Or way back in 1956, ‘The Magician’ finishing ahead of Real Madrid legends Alfredo Di Stefano and Raymond Kopa.
Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel Messi is the man with the most triumphs to his name with a whopping seven, while Cristiano Ronaldo has finished top of the voting on an impressive five occasions.
But pretty much everyone knows the two GOATs have been dominant when it comes to the Ballon d’Or since 2007, so we’re keen to test more of your knowledge about the coveted award.
That’s why we’ve created a 15 question quiz which will do exactly that.
In each question, you’ll be asked to name the missing player from a Ballon d’Or podium.
The questions are focused on the Ballon d’Or from 1995 onwards, as that’s when the rules were changed and non-European players became eligible to win the award.
Here’s our scoring system…
0-4 – Time do some serious revision
5-9 – A solid effort
10-14 – Do you work for France Football?
15 – You deserve a golden ball of your own!
Sound good? Right, give it your best shot!
