Football fans claim Robert Lewandowski was ‘disrespected’ during Monday’s Ballon d’Or ceremony.

The prolific striker, who has enjoyed an excellent start to life at Barcelona after leaving Bayern Munich in the summer, was at the ceremony to receive the Gerd Muller Trophy.

The award recognises the player who scored the most goals with their club and national team during a single season.

Lewandowski was pleased to receive the individual accolade but there was a slightly awkward moment when the conversation turned to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland while the Poland international was on stage giving his speech.

Co-host Didier Drogba, one of the most iconic strikers of his generation, said to Lewandowski: “You know, this kid… he’s on fire, my friend.”

The camera then panned to Kevin De Bruyne and Karim Benzema. You can see how the pair reacted on the clip below.
