Baftas 2023: Who is Little Simz performing at the film awards tonight?

Little Simz will be performing at the Baftas 2023 on Sunday night. The event is streamed from London's Royal Albert Hall at 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The prestigious awards ceremony has seen a star-studded guestlist over the years including royalty with Prince William and Kate Middleton attending this year. It is an honour to be asked to perform and the artist will follow in the footsteps of previous legendary artists such as Shirley Bassey.

But who is Little Simz and how did she get to where she is now? We took a look at the Islington-born performer and how she has risen from strength to strength over the past decade.

Little Simz was born was born on 23 February 1994 currently making her 28 years old. Her full name is Simbiatu "Simbi" Abisola Abiola Ajikawo and she was raised on a council estate in Islington, London.

She has two older sisters and was born to two Nigerian parents. She studied at Highbury Fields School in London and St Mary's Youth Club where fellow pop stars Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke attended.

She stated that this is "where it all began" for her and later studied at Westminster Kingsway College and The University of West London, fully embarking on her music career from here.

Acting

Simbi is multi-talented and is a British rapper, singer and actress. Creatively, she began acting first and played the role of Vicky in the BBC children's series Spirit Warriors which was broadcast in 2010. She played Meleka in the E4 television series, Youngers, and was narrator for the television series, Afrofuturism.
