Bacary Sagna names only club that can rival Man City in Champions League this season

Former Manchester City and Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has claimed that only one club can rival the Blues for the Champions League trophy this season.

Pep Guardiola's side beat Sevilla 4-0 on Tuesday as they got off to the perfect start in Group G. City are top of their group on goal difference after the first round of matches, following Borussia Dortmund's 3-0 win over FC Copenhagen.

Erling Haaland carried his sensational goalscoring form in England with him to Seville, as he scored two goals against the Spanish opposition. The Norwegian striker was joined on the scoresheet with Phil Foden and Ruben Dias also getting in on the action.

Many regard Haaland as the missing piece in City's search for European success, and Sagna thinks that this season could finally see the Blues lift the elusive trophy. The former Arsenal defender gave his verdict on the club's chance of success this season as he highlighted who he sees as their main rivals.

"For me, it is between Man City and PSG [to win the Champions League]," Sagna told Betway. "Hopefully they don’t play each other before because that would be an amazing final. That game would be crazy.

"You have amazing players on both sides. Neymar, Mbappe, Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, they always keep the same level. They’re so consistent. For me, they are the two outstanding teams and one of them will win it for the first time.

City have failed to win the Champions League since Guardiola arrived at the club six years ago, but Sagna is confident it is only a matter of time.
