Azerbaijan Grand Prix: Charles Leclerc hoping to 'finish the job' after sealing pole in Baku

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc says he is hoping to ‘finish the job’ this weekend in Baku after taking pole position in qualifying on Saturday afternoon.

The Monegasque extended his run of pole positions to four in a row on Saturday as he stormed to P1 in Azerbaijan, posting a time over two tenths quicker than Sergio Perez, who will line up second.

Indeed, Leclerc’s performance in qualifying was once again stellar but after seeing poles in Miami, Spain and Monaco all fail to be converted into victories, he’ll be eager to right that this weekend and get back to winning ways.

Speaking after the session on Saturday in the Azerbaijani capital, he said:

“Well, I just want to finish the job. The past two weekends I’ve already said that on the Saturday, and it didn’t happen on the Sunday. We need to make it – well we don’t need to make it work – but it would be very nice if we made it work tomorrow. Let’s see how it goes in the first few laps and then I will try to keep the lead.

“Whether it’s strong enough compared to the Red Bull, this we’ll see tomorrow. I think since we had the new package, we’ve tried different things and from my feeling, it feels better in the race, but we still need to confirm it tomorrow so tomorrow we’ll have an answer for that. The feeling is there and it’s good, so I’m optimistic for tomorrow.”

As mentioned, Leclerc leads from Perez into turn one tomorrow, whilst Max Verstappen starts third and Carlos Sainz lines up fourth.
