Ayr Utd 3, Hamilton 2: Oakley clincher seals double Ayr win

Hamilton Accies threw away a 2-1 lead to lose against high-flying Ayr United at Somerset Park.

The Lanarkshire club at least got their first goals of the league season through Oli Shaw and Jamie Barjonas, but Jamie Murphy's opener was added to by strikes from Marco Rus and George Oakley as Ayr kept the points for the second time in three games.

A very even first half ended with Hamilton edging ahead, but both sides created plenty of chances on a rain-swept pitch.

Murphy put Ayr on their way in seven minutes, but Shaw levelled that 20 minutes later for Hamilton.

Barjonas gave Accies the lead in 37 minutes with a tremendous run and shot.

But Rus let fly with a lob from distance that left Charlie Albinson with no chance, to level in 52 minutes.

And Oakley slammed the ball into the back of the net to put Ayr ahead in 66 minutes.

Hamilton's first-half lead was no more than Accies deserved, with Kevin O'Hara and Barjonas having tested Ayr keeper Harry Stone on a few occasions.

For their part, Ayr always looked threatening when coming forward, which presented some moments of concern for the Hamilton rear-guard.

But the Honest Men came roaring back in the second half and were ahead inside 15 minutes.

Ayr boss Scott Brown perhaps unsurprisingly kept faith with the side that beat Airdrie 5-0 last Friday night.

His Hamilton counterpart John Rankin made two changes to the side that drew 0-0 at Morton. Captain Scott Martin returned from suspension alongside Euan Henderson, and they replaced Steven Bradley and Nikolay Todorov.

Oli Shaw burst forward from Ayr's kick-off, but couldn't find Henderson in what would have been a good break.
