Aymeric Laporte notes difference between Erling Haaland in Man City training and games

Erling Haaland's secret to his record-breaking season is to save himself for matchday, Aymeric Laporte has revealed.

Laporte is often tasked with stopping Haaland in Manchester City training, with the Norwegian's work clearly paying off as he registered his 51st goal of the season in the win over West Ham this week. That goal saw him break the record for the most goals in a single Premier League campaign with 35, and Laporte said there is 'no limit' to how good Haaland can become.

With eight games remaining the season, Haaland has a chance to extend his records before going again next season, with Laporte explaining the work done on the training pitch to improve the striker's all-round game this season as well as his goalscoring.

"There's no limit. His physical condition is unbelievable," Laporte told Sky Sports of Haaland's potential.

"He takes care of everything. He's very humble, a very good guy in the dressing room. We appreciate him a lot. It's good for the team and for him."

Laporte also let supporters in on what it was like to defend against Haaland, albeit in training. The Spaniard said that while he would prefer to face Haaland in training, he can see the striker taking things easier between games in order to be in the best condition for the big games.

"In training he rests a bit, he prefers to play games in the Premier League or Champions League and score more there," Laporte said. "He takes it easier. I prefer to let [other defenders] face him in games.

"He improves a lot this season. The technical condition he improves, and he can get better in every sense."
