Aymeric Laporte makes displeasure clear with sarcastic response after PFA snub

Aymeric Laporte has made his disappointment clear after being snubbed from the PFA Team of the Year - and Manchester City have dropped a timely montage of the defender on their Twitter account.

On Thursday night, the PFA announced its yearly awards that saw Mohamed Salah crowned as player of the year while Phil Foden scooped the prize of young player of the year. However, there was controversy with fans divided from all sides after the team of the year was revealed.

Despite winning the Premier League, only three City players were included - Joao Cancelo, Kevin de Bruyne and Bernardo Silva. In comparison, Liverpool had six named - Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Thiago Alcantara, Sadio Mane and Salah.

Many could not believe that Heung-min Son - who won the Golden Boot this season without a single penalty - was totally omitted while others were bamboozled by the choice of Thiago - who played just 25 times - over Rodri.

But one player who was clearly left incensed was Laporte, who took to Instagram to argue his case that he should have been nominated for a spot in the squad. In a series of images posted to his story, he denoted a number of key stats.

They included highest passing accuracy in the Premier League, the highest number of accurate passes per 90 minutes, the most completed passes in the league, most centre-back goals, most points in the Premier League history from first 100 games and most 'last-man' tackles.

City also dropped a well-timed video on Twitter showing all of Laporte's best moments from the season. While not necessarily saying so, it was a clear dig at the 28-year-old's absence from the PFA Team of the year.
