Axe-wielding man threatens couple before chasing them in terrifying attack
A woman has been arrested in connection with an attempted burglary in Rochdale last night.
Police were called to Newlands Avenue at around 9.30pm on Monday evening (February 28) following reports of a man with an axe.
The man had been attempting to force entry to a nearby property while wielding the weapon.

Two people sitting in a nearby vehicle saw the man attempting to gain entry and subsequently called the police.
Having noticed the couple in the car, the man then threatened them and asked for money.
In a bid to distract him, the couple hit the man with the car door.
The man in the car was then chased by the offender on foot, who was able to flee the scene in a vehicle driven by a woman
The vehicle was later spotted on St Mary’s Gate in the Rochdale area at around 1.50am before being pursued by officers.
A 45-year-old woman was later arrested on suspicion of robbery.
She remains in police custody.
Enquiries are ongoing to locate the outstanding male.
