Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi has won Nottingham Forest’s Player and Goal of the Month awards for August.

In the announcement made on Forest’s website, Awoniyi got 83% of the votes for the Player of the Month award and 38% for Goal of the Month.

Awoniyi scored three goals and has an assist in four Premier League games so far this season.

In August, he scored three goals in three matches, becoming only the third African player (after Emmanuel Adebayor and Mohamed Salah) to score in seven consecutive Premier League matches.

His nine goals in seven straight Premier League games saw him become the first Forest player ever to do so.

This subsequently led to an August Premier League Player of the Month nomination.

For the Goal of the Month, his run and finish against Manchester United was voted by Forest supporters as the best for August.

Two of his three Premier League goals in August were up for the award.

On Sunday, Awoniyi scores for the Super Eagles in their 6-0 win against São Tomé and Principe in the final game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo.

The win saw the Eagles cement top spot in Group A on 15 points while Guinea-Bissau finished second and will also be at next year’s tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.
