Awful: Wolves supporters will be furious as footage emerges - opinion

Footage from Saturday’s midlands derby will surely leave Wolves fans fuming, despite the result.

Wolves managed to pick up their third win in four games after Saturday’s 2-1 win over Villa as they climbed up to seventh, only five points off Arsenal who sit in the last Champions League spot in fourth. In spite of their positive results, the game was far from comfortable for the fans.

The game looked dead and buried at 2-0, after goals from Jonny Otto (7′) and an own goal from Ashley Young (36′), until a challenge on Villa striker Ollie Watkins by goalkeeper Jose Sa in the 86th minute was deemed a foul and consequently by referee Darren England, which as a result Watkins netted from.

However, a video has since emerged on Twitter that shows a different angle.

The video shows Watkins and Sa collide together in the Wolves’ penalty area after Watkins’s last touch on the ball takes it away from the keeper, but in contrast with the penalty decision, it looks like Watkins has the bigger part in the contact, not Sa, who is trying to pull out of the challenge.

The result when Wolves’ way in the end but it’s a decision that could’ve cost the Old Gold the game had the Villans managed to score in the dying embers. As well as this, Wolves were on the receiving end of another bad decision as Raul Jimenez was sent off for a foul on Illan Meslier which was later criticised.

England’s decision to give a penalty for this challenge seemed questionable from the moment it happened. Despite the fact that Watkins got the last touch on the ball there was a coming together with Sa, it did look as if the keeper was pulling out of the challenge and that Watkins had a bigger part in the foul.
