Australian Open 2022 – watch online in the UK

The Australian Open 2022 is reaching its finals, but the first Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year has already been front and centre of headlines around the world as a result of Novak Djokovic's visa saga.

Djokovic's attempt to appeal against the decision to cancel his visa was dismissed on Sunday (January 16), and he then left Australia. The men's singles tournament got underway without the reigning champion.

However, talk quickly turned to the action on court, and while the likes of reigning US Open champion Emma Raducanu, Sir Andy Murray and defending women's singles champion Naomi Osaka may have said a slightly earlier farewell to the tournament than they would have hoped, there's still plenty of interesting stories going into the finals.

Reigning Wimbledon champion and current world number one Ash Barty is the first Australian woman to reach the final since 1980. Ash will play Danielle Collins, who is competing in her first Grand Slam tennis final.

In the men's singles competition, Rafael Nadal makes his sixth appearance, and is on the verge of making history.

If he wins the tournament this weekend, he will secure a record-breaking 21st Grand Slam title, putting him ahead of Djokovic and Roger Federer (who was unable to play as he continues his recovery from knee surgery). Rafa will be playing one of 2021 French Open finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas or reigning US Open men's singles champion Daniil Medvedev, whose semi-final takes place later on Friday (January 28).

Here's more on how you can watch the finals this weekend.

You may remember in previous years that the Australian Open was available to watch via Eurosport Player in the UK. In 2022, you'll find coverage
