Australian fans snap up Celtic and Rangers friendly tickets as Ibrox climbdown prospect fails to stop rush

Australian fans have moved quickly to snap up tickets for the controversial Sydney Super Cup Old Firm derby - despite Rangers considering pulling out.

The Premiership title rivals were set to meet in the clash in November but the exhibition tournament sparked fury among both sides of the Glasgow divide.

The match would be the first time the two clubs have ever met outside of Scotland and the event has been billed as a homecoming for Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou by the Parkhead club.

After a backlash from supporters, Record Sport revealed Rangers chiefs have been considering aborting the big money Australian trip.

Sources in Australia are adamant Rangers will be clobbered with a massive seven figure penalty if they do plunge the four team tournament into disarray.

Despite the controversy, fans in Oz hasn't been put off the clash with some ticket tiers at the 83,500-seater Accor Stadium already selling out.

Having gone on sale on Wednesday, all Premium tickets have been snapped up by eager fans according to ticket site Ticketek.

A-League chiefs have previously speculated that the game could sell out completely after a positive response in Australia.
