Aussie women wary of Pakistan spin threat

Australia will be fighting Pakistan on two fronts on Tuesday as Meg Lanning's side face their next opponent at the Women's World Cup.

As the men's Test side battles Pakistan in a historic Test in Rawalpindi, the women's ODI take on the green shirts in the neutral territory of Tauranga's Bay Oval.

Australia will be heavy favourites to make it two from two in New Zealand after a first-up defeat of England on Saturday.

Pakistan, the lowest-ranked side at the World Cup, were crushed by arch-rivals India on Sunday, suffering a deflating 107-run loss.

The Southern Stars haven't played Pakistan in any format since the 2018 T20 World Cup in Guyana.

"There is a bit of unknown and that's the beauty of World Cups," Lanning told AAP.

"In a way that's a good thing, because I think it allows us to focus on what we want to achieve.

"If we execute our game plan as well as we can, that's going to give us the best chance."

While it's been a long time between drinks, similar faces will meet again.

Six in Australia's World Cup squad - Lanning, Alyssa Healy, Beth Mooney, Rachael Haynes, Ellyse Perry and Megan Schutt - played in that win, while there are eight Pakistan players still hanging on from 2018.

They include indefatigable captain Bismah Maroof, and spinners Nida Dar and Nashra Sandhu, who caught Mooney's eye even as they tasted defeat to India.

"The spinners did an outstanding job through that middle period ... they had the squeeze on quite nicely to India," she said.

"That's something that we pride ourselves on as a batting group is making sure we're always moving the game forward and accessing different areas of the ground."
