Aussie stumper Wade joins Joburg Super Kings for rest of SA20

Australian wicket-keeper Matthew Wade will join the Joburg Super Kings for the remainder of the SA20.

Wade, the 35-year-old Tasmanian who played in 36 Tests, 97 ODIs and 75 T20s, was an integral part of Australia's T20 World Cup-winning side in 2021 in the United Arab Emirates.

Wade, who played the bulk of his first-class cricket for Victoria before returning to his native Tasmania, played for the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL).

The Hurricanes finished sixth at the end of the eight-team regular season round-robin stage, precluding them from participating in the ongoing play-off stages.

Wade was the 17th-highest run-maker in the BBL, with 307 runs at 25.28 at a strike rate of 131.19.

Wade last featured for Australia in November last year in the T20 World Cup, with his last ODI and Test appearances being in 2021 against the West Indies and India, respectively.

Wade is the latest in a batch of overseas players who have joined the SA20 for other players who have departed for international duty.

Singapore-born Australian Tim David and Englishman Henry Brookes joined Mumbai Indians Cape Town, while Ben McDermott, son of legendary Australian pacer Craig, and David Willey, son of former England batter and umpire David, both joined Durban's Super Kings.

Willey is part of England's ODI side that's playing against South Africa in their ongoing series and the SA20 resumes on Thursday when Durban's Super Giants host MI Cape Town.
