Atula seeks NSC’s supports to head wrestling federation

Veteran Wrestlers Association of Nigeria President, Morris Atula, paid a special visit to National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman, Malam Shehu Dikko Thursday, seeking his endorsement as next President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation.

During the visit, Atula, former Nigeria, Commonwealth and World Wrestling Champion told Dikko that he has the required large pocket and contacts for Nigerian wrestling to be among the best in the world.

Atula, who recently relocated to Nigeria after four decades in Europe, said: “I have the local and International partners ready to contribute to the revival of our wrestling. I have the exposure, passion and contacts to generate and develop the talents begging for exposure. Besides knowing what the Federation needs immediately, I am certain of sponsorship from abroad, companies and sports loving individuals.”

I am also confident that state Governors all over the country would appreciate our drive and fully support our programmes.”

While appreciating the appointment of Dikko and Bukola Olapade as NSC Chairman and Director General, Atula said that veteran wrestlers and himself are inspired to play key roles in revival of wrestling.

“It is a case of matching big pocket with passion, experience and technocrats. I have worked hard to rule the Wrestling World and got lot of experience doing business in different parts of the world. I personally appreciate the outgoing board hence the NSC leadership should flag off this positive and bold move to fully develop Wrestling.”

The Edo Wrestling Association chairman vowed that his tenure would witness a special health care programme alongside regular training and competitions in all 36 States of the nation, including the FCT.
