Atletico Madrid ordered to close part of their stadium after Uefa investigation into fan behaviour at Man City

Atletico Madrid have been ordered to close parts of their stadium for their Champions League clash against Manchester City on Wednesday.

The Premier League leaders take their 1-0 aggregate advantage to the Wanda Metropolitano with a place in the semi-finals up for grabs.

But Atleti will play in front of a reduced crowd after being punished by Uefa for the behaviour of their supporters during the first leg in Manchester.

Two charges were initiated on Friday, for discriminatory behaviour and throwing objects.

A total of 5,000 seats will have to be left empty for the second leg with an anti-discrimination banner to be placed across them, as part of the punishment.

The news comes as Madrid plans to host both City and Chelsea fans for their Champions League games this midweek.

Around 1,500 members of the security force will be deployed for the game although the last time two sets of English fans met in the Spanish capital, for the Champions League final in 2019, there were no major incidents.
