Atkin soars to emotional World Championship silver in Georgia

Zoe Atkin banished her post-Beijing demons by soaring to World Championship silver in Bakuriani. The 20-year-old star finished second behind American ace Hanna Faulhaber, 18, to seal back-to-back World Championship medals in the freestyle halfpipe event. Ad Atkin bagged a brilliant bronze in Aspen two years ago before finishing ninth at the Winter Olympics in China last year.

World Championships'Yes she can!' — Atkin wins half pipe silver with brilliant second run3 HOURS AGO She struggled with post-Games 'depression' from a whirlwind couple of years but believes she's back to her best after an ice-cool run on the Georgian slopes. Atkin, whose score of 94.50 beat Canadian Rachael Karker to silver by 2.25 points, said: «I had a rough couple of months after the Olympics. »Post-Olympics depression is really real, and it was definitely real for me, but I remember going to spring camps and sometimes not even putting on my skis.

«I'd drive to the hill and sometimes just turn around and drive back. I took some time off in the summer and went to school in the autumn, which was a nice mental reset — I think I really needed that, because I've been skiing since I was two years old. »It's amazing.

I'm really stoked and so proud. «The conditions were pretty tough and I didn't really do any of my tricks, so I'm just stoked to be able to put one down. And then to be able to get onto the podium.
