Athlete Grant Baillie wins British title in 10k race

East Kilbride athlete Grant Baillie raced to a British M40 title in the Falkirk Round the Houses 10k.

One of Scotland’s longest-running races, which attracted a very strong field of runners from all over the country and beyond, the Round the Houses 10k incorporated the Scottish Students’ 10k Road Championships, British Masters 10k Road Championships, and the East of Scotland District 10k Road Championships.

Representing East Kilbride were husband and wife duo Grant and Kelly Baillie.

Grant ran an all-time personal best of 31 minutes and 37 seconds, finishing third overall and first British M40 (male over-40).

In a truly epic battle with Darrel Hastie, Grant surged away near the end of the race to beat his nearest rival by eight seconds.

Kelly Baillie also ran brilliantly on the day, posting 39.54, placing her second in the British W40 category, claiming her first ever British medal with her fastest 10k time since 2007.

David Ross also represented East Kilbride at the Manchester Marathon and broke the three-hour mark with a time of 2 hours, 55 minutes and 39 seconds.

He said: “I nailed my fuelling, but over-hydrated, having to stop for a comfort break at mile 11.

“The wheels started to come off at mile 17, and miles 20 through to 26 were a real mental battle.

“However, I’ll be looking to do one again in the future, for sure.”
