Atalanta sign Paolo Maldini’s son Daniel from Monza
Daniel Maldini, the son of Italian football icon Paolo Maldini, has signed for Atalanta from Monza, his new club announced on Saturday.
“Atalanta are happy to announce the permanent signing of Daniel Maldini from Monza,” the Bergamo-based team said in a statement.
Italian media report that Atalanta paid around 11 million euros for attacker Maldini, with half of that fee going to AC Milan, who sold the 23-year-old to Monza in January last year.
Maldini has reportedly signed a contract until June 2029 with Atalanta, who sit third in Serie A, seven points behind league leaders Napoli, ahead of their home fixture with Torino on Saturday.
In October, Daniel Maldini became the third generation of his family to represent Italy when he came on as a substitute against Israel in the Nations League.
One of Italy’s greatest ever footballers, Paolo Maldini played 126 times for his country between 1988 and 2002, an appearance record that was subsequently overtaken by Fabio Cannavaro and then Gianluigi Buffon.
Cesare Maldini had a more modest international career, playing 14 times for Italy in the 1960s.
