At Ambassador’s Party, Amusan assures Nigerians of better Paris 2024 Olympics

World 100m women hurdles’ record holder, Tobi Amusan, has assured Nigerians of a better outing at next year’s Olympic Games in Paris, France.
Amusan could not defend her world title at the 19th World Athletics Championships in Budapest, but her world record of 12.12 secs set at the Oregon, U.S. edition of the championship last year, is still intact.

Speaking at the Nigerian Embassy in Budapest when the Ambassador hosted Team Nigeria, yesterday, Amusan said: “We came to Budapest to give our best, we actually did, but the results may not be the best outing. Paris 2024 Olympic Games will surely be different.”

Amusan, who is the Commonwealth, Africa and Nigerian record holder in the 100m hurdles added: “I thank the government and people of Nigeria for the support given to athletics. As I said, there are many Games ahead, and we will do our best to put smile on faces of our people.”

In her remarks, Dr. Modupe Enitan Irele, who is Nigeria’s Ambassador to Hungary, Serbia, Croatia and Bosnian Herzegovina, appreciated all Nigerian athletes and officials that participated in the 19th World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

She said: “You are gifted people and I am so proud of you.” Turning to Amusan, Ambassador Irele said: “Your world record is still intact because it has not been broken. There must be some things you are taking home from this Championships as learning points.

“Each Game is different, and as you go back home, hold your head high. As for your World Record, and other athletes holding different records, I pray that you will be the one to break your own record.”
