Aston Villa tipped to complete 'fair' £25m Rangers transfer

Former Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton has tipped Steven Gerrard to complete a £25million move for Rangers ace Calvin Bassey.

Bassey, 22, has been heavily linked with a move away from the Ibrox Stadium after impressing across the Scottish clubs sensational run throughout the Europa League last season. However, a reunion with his former manager Gerrard has since been cast into doubt after a figure in the region of £25m was quoted for the young defender.

Speaking to Football Insider, former Villa defender Alan Hutton has tipped Steven Gerrard to complete a move for Bassey whilst also claiming the price-tag is 'fair' for the player. He said: “I could see Villa paying it. Obviously, the manager, Steven Gerrard, knows him inside out and bought him to Rangers.

“There’s a lot of media speculation about Calvin Bassey and a Villa transfer because of the manager. When you’re playing at a level that he’s playing at, so young, at such a high level, he’s got a lot more to give. He’s only going to get better.

“I think that’s probably a fair price if I’m totally honest. I know people keep bringing up the Kieran Tierney situation and what he went for. Calvin Bassey is more than capable of doing exactly the same thing.

“He ticks all the same boxes that Kieran Tierney does. He’s powerful, he can get forward and put balls into the box, he’s very strong one-v-one defending and can play multiple positions.

“This is a guy where the world’s his oyster if you want. I really think that £25million is a very fair price."
