Aston Villa supporters still split on Tyrone Mings after Dean Smith claim

Aston Villa supporters remain undecided on club captain Tyrone Mings in the aftermath of comments about former boss Dean Smith.

Mings, when asked about being dropped by the now Norwich City head coach earlier in the season, has admitted to feeling "scapegoated a little bit" by Smith 's decision.

The England international started on the substitutes bench for the visit of West Ham United to Villa Park last Halloween before being called upon early in the second half after Ezri Konsa was shown a straight red card in the 4-1 defeat.

Despite starting every match since that the defender has been available for under both Steven Gerrard and his predecessor, Villa supporters are still somewhat split.

Here is a selection of the social media reaction to Mings' comments from our Twitter account and the comments section

It was obvious there was a row brewing during the Arsenal match when Mings was shaking his head throughout the game. Easy to spot the team wasn’t happy with a back three.

The only issue with big Tyrone is he loses concentration from time to time, he was bang out of form at the time Dean Smith dropped him and it was the right decision.

Fair play to him, he’s come back and been really good by and large since. Which probably proves Dean was right to give him a kick up the jacksy.

Mings would do well to concentrate on his own game because while he is pointing at other Villa players telling them what to do, the man he should be marking is drifting away from him.

The defence fell apart without him. West Ham could have scored 6 in that first half. He came on when we were down to 10 after Konsa had been sent off and we looked better than with 11.

You weren’t good enough then and l still have my doubts.
